In and Out December

Holidays - spending time with the family and the munchkins - It's nice to catch up and get in a few laughs

Flat boots - I got these as a going to India present a few weeks ago from my aunt and I've been wearing them almost everyday

Blingy Headbands - This has been my go to holiday accessory this season, it just seems to be just festive enough without going overboard.

Nude Nails - I have been obsessed with pink and nudes for nails this winter and Mod About You is my all time favorite color this season

Big Hair - I really love the Aveda Volumizing Tonic - it has done a lot for my hair and it gives me the UMPH I need :)

India - I'm really excited about my visit, I will take pictures and show you the craziness that is shopping there.

Holiday food - I need to get myself sorted out after all this holiday food madness, I'm a big fat FAIL right now :)

OTT Decor - I love decor, I love the holidays but you know.... some people need to draw the line (my neighbors for one)

Chipped Dark Nails - Probably why I'm into nudes at the moment - this is not a good look by any means

Hair Straighteners - I pulled mine iron the other day and proceeded to straighten out my hair and once I saw the lifeless hair I stopped. I haven't used these all year to be quite honest - not even to curl my hair. I much prefer rollers, or curling irons.

Packing - this is always an OUT :)

Product Review: Sally Hansen Moisture Plump Lip Balm

One of my biggest beauty obsessions is lip balms. I think I have more than I need, and probably more than I can ever use. I hate to admit it but I get very anxious when I am without one - so I always try to carry one with me in all bags, cars, travel cases, etc..etc.. at all times !

I stumbled upon these new Sally Hansen Lip Balms at CVS the other day in a gift pack, being that I really love the Carmindy line for Sally Hansen, I thought I would pick them up
The colors were perfect, and I was really interested in the lip plumping and nourishing aspect.
From L to R: Fresh Pink, Berry Shine and Nude Shimmer

Although Fresh Pink and Nude Shimmer do not show up very well as a swatch - they are probably my favorite shades. Berry Shine is very pigmented for a lip balm - so it's not something I would pickup to wear all the time - but is still very pretty.

I like nude shimmer and fresh pink as a great way to add some shine to lips when you aren't looking to wear gloss or lipcolor.

Overall, I think they're pretty colors but I don't feel much in the lip plumping - they just feel soothing and moisturizing so I can live with that.

These were on sale for 9.99 for all 3 - and well that's a great way for me to play with color :)

Now it your turn ! What are some of your favorite lip balms?

And just to make it fun, I will TAG . . .

And if you happen to be reading this and aren't on the list above - I'd love to know what your favorite lip balm is too !!

Haul : ELF Mineral Eyeshadows, Blushes and a Bronzer

I've been a bit behind on the mineral eyeshadow business - I can't really give a good enough reason as to why but I really handnt experimented too much with them.

That all changed about a month or so ago when I was on ELF's website and they were having a 50% off mineral makeup sale. I remember seeing one of Lolliipop26's videos where she mentioned buying all of the mineral shadows - and that is exactly what I did folks.

I have to first state that their shipping is still horrible - I ordered something online a few days after placing this order- and recieved a few days before my ELF order came in. That is really annoying - BUT the eye shadows are absolutely lovely !!
I purchased 18 shadows - the entire line for $1.50 each :)

Enlarge to See the shadows - they are from Left to Right

Top: Natural, Trendy, Royal, Partier, Seductive and Mysterious
Middle: Sweet, Girly, Temptress, Caffeinated, Sassy, and Socialite
Bottom: Celebrity, Golden, Earthy, Confetti, Glamorous and Wild

The Elf Bronzer / Blush Duo

L to R: Peach Keen, Blushing Rose and Candid Coral

My Thoughts: I haven't been able to play with all of the eyeshadows (no surprise there) but I really like Natural and Royal. The neutral and shimmery purple go so well together. Overall the quality is really nice and very very fine - so even a novice can work with them without too much effort.

The downfall - of course is the packaging. It's really hard to work with sifters - you get a lot of product and it's always a hassle. But for the price and the color payoff - I think these are amazing.

As far as the blushes, they give great color pay off - but are OK. nothing really to rave or rant about. This may be biased b/c I just rediscovered my Nars blushes and well... you know how that is :)

Decor Inspiration: DIFFA : SF

I have a soft spot for interior design and for charitable organizations - and a small wallet to meet all my aspirations.

So like many of us I like to live through beautiful images and one of the best places to see beautiful setups is at DIFFA - the Dining by Design Foundation Fighting Aids Event. To learn more see here

It's essentially an event to showcase innovation and creation - using table scapes as the backdrop.

Here are some of my favorite images from the 2008 SF event. The 2009 Event will be November 18th.

Product Review: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay

I love finding new - natural alternatives for skin care. The other day I was browsing through the aisles at Whole Foods spending a few minutes browsing the skin care aisles when I came across this:

I had heard about this mask a while back - I think on a few blogs or a magazine I can't quite remember - but I do remember thinking it was an interesting product. Why? because It's has only one ingredient - yes that's right just ONE - 100 percent all natural calcium bentonite clay. The same type that can be found in many spas and is used for facials, body wraps ect, etc. The bentonite clay is known for the ability to help clear skin and minimize pores - so you know I was sold !

The unique thing about this product is how you use it. It come's in a powder form like this:

You mix equal parts of the clay with equal parts of apple cider vinegar. I used about an ounce of each into a gray paste. You can also use water - but they and I prefer the cider vinegar.

Now please note - this is a warming mask - but it can be pretty intense. It's has been known to make your face pulse - or basically react to the cider/clay combo. This isn't a negative feeling - it just feels really weird - and if you don't expect it you'll be a little confused as to what is happening.

But I have been using this for a little while now and I'm LOVING IT !! I'm not sure what I like more - the feeling I get when I apply the mask - or the results. My skin feels cleansed - but not tight. I see a difference in the appearance of my pores around my cheeks and nose area (which are my problem areas)

You can find this at Wholefoods for about $7.99 for the tub - enough to last you a year I think.

Just remember to use a nice calming toner after your mask - lately I have been loving the Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner
It's gentle and I've always been led to believe (by my mother's bias) that rose water is good for the skin. Also - it's super affordable around $8.99 for 12 oz.

Soliciting Input : Holiday Gift Ideas

I'm not sure how - but it's already the near the end of October ! Most of you may think this means I'm worrying about Halloween - but I'm not really. I just realized that this year has gone by way too fast.

What this translates too is YIKES! I have about a month or so to get my Christmas gifts researched - purchased and handed out - as I'm going on a lil vacation during the holiday season to India via Dubai for some much needed family time and of course shopping for the wedding.

I'd also like to say that I have really enjoyed having this blog as an outlet this year - it's been so much fun to be able to interact with some really amazing ladies - all of whom read my randomness!

A very heartfelt THANK YOU from me to you :)

Things I want . . . Hair

Blogging is fun. Finding other great bloggers is even better - but there is a slight downside. The abundance of products/hauls that they share and my need to want every single one of them.

I thought I would try to in turn create a wishlist and see what I actually WANTED vs what I really NEEDED :) So here is my HAIR WISHLIST :

Hair Styling Trio

5andra swears by this trio . . .

Of these - I think the volumizing tonic will be on a shopping list soon. The fact that it works for fine/thin hair and adds weightless volume had me sold !

Big Impact

Big Shampoo by Lush

A few bloggers - TheeGlossGoss - SukandSpice and Bubblegarm have all posted and raved about this product.

The product is a lemon-lime margarita shampoo that is said to add lots of volume and shine to hair.

Instant Lift

Dry Shampoos are one of those things that make you think - how did I live before this?!

Lollipop26 has mentioned the Pure Abundance by Aveda a few times

The product is said to add instant volume and thickness to blah hair.

Lastly, a non blogger but someone that I follow (and probably so do a lot of you)

Rachel Zoe in one of her Zoe Reports a few weeks ago mentioned the All Nigther - Dry Shampoo.

It's pretty new to the market - but looks to be a dry shampoo that has several shades (great for us brunettes).

What is on your wishlist ?? please share

Happy Diwali

I'm spending the day with the parents enjoying lots of home made food and of course a few fireworks with the munchkins later.

What is Diwali You ask?

Diwali or Dīpāvali (Sanskrit: a row of lamps[1]) is a significant festival in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism, and an official holiday in India.[2] Adherents of these religions celebrate Diwali as the Festival of Lights. They light diyas—cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil—to signify victory of good over the evil within an individual.

On the day of Diwali / Deepavali, many wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks.

Hope you're all having a great weekend Diwali or not !

Hair Matters: Tips from Jimmy Paul (Bumble and Bumble Hairstylist)

There's been a lot of talk about hair these days on blogs and twitter - so I thought I would share a few of my favorite tips from the legendary hairstylist Jimmy Paul.
If you're not familiar with his work - he does amazing stuff (think romantic 70's hair)

Here are a few of his tips:

To add volume to dry hair, lift small sections and allow them to drop through a mist of medium-hold hair spray. "then spray your entire head with dry dry shampoo and scrunch; the result is hair with lift and a lovely, seemingly no-product finish.”

For those who hate hair spray, apply mousse to a vent brush and then to damp hair—it won't squeeze the air out of the mousse. “Coat the brush with mousse and run it through one side of your hair, then refuel and do the other side,” Jimmy Paul -Allure

Use a Texture Foam like Pantene Texture Foam ($6.49) on damp hair to create texture. Blow-dry while scrunching to get volume. "Then curl two-inch sections, holding the iron vertically, and let the curls drop," says Paul. Finish by combing with your fingers. - Cosmo

Uneven Curls
If you're right-or left-handed, chances are, you can't twist the curling iron as well with your nondominant hand, so your curls don't come out even, explains Bumble and Bumble stylist Jimmy Paul. "To make it easier, point the tip of the iron down instead of up, and wrap pieces around vertically for more control." - Cosmo

And I had to include a few of his favorite styling products:

surf spray
"It gives an incredible beachy texture - it's like a holiday in a

bottle. And it smells great! I also used it if I want an edgy,
matte look."
4 oz. - $22.00

spray de mode
"This is my favorite all purpose spay - to hold finished looks,
or as a working spray with a curling iron."
10 oz. - $25.00

"It makes it shiny and adds a little hold. – use it on slightly
wavy hair to enhance the wave – it works wonders."
8 oz. - $17.00

Styling Balm
"I put this on the ends of damp hair to control
and make hair healthier and shiny."
* 3.4 oz. - $33.00

Hair of the Day: Loose Waves

Well... this was my hair of the day this weekend so it's a few days late but I really like how it
turned out :)

What I did:
  • Sprayed hair with heat protectant (GVP of course)
  • Loose waves - using a 1 and 1/2" hot tools curling iron staring 2-3" away from the roots
  • Curled around the base and then let the curl down
  • Pinned curl w. bobby pin to head (repeated)
  • Let hair cool - then dropped the pins
  • Set with garnier hair spray
What are you doing with your hair at the moment?

Hair Products I Regret Buying : TAG

This tag is not new by any means, but i thought I would update it with just hair products and share a few things that I have picked up and are not worth the hype!

It's been a while since I have done a tag, so I tag the following:

Kristin from BonBonRose
Hachii from Beauty-Bargain
Jilessa P from Stylemansion
Superficial girl from Superficialgirls
Fantastic from Suka and Spice
Lotus from Krazy Lotus

and ALL of the blog readers if you haven't done this post

The Award for: Product That Did Nothing At All
John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Salt-Spray

I was really excited last summer, I thought that maybe the beachy wave would be mine. I heard a lot about different salt-sprays, and so without much research I decided to go with the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Salt-Spray. I was hoping it would accomodate the darkness in my hair and not dry it out - just give my hair some texture. Well it did nothing, no volume, no texture.

The Award for: Overpriced Product
Matrix Amplify Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner
I know a lot of people like this product, but for me it wasn't that special. It didn't really provide any lift or volume. It was the same as other Matrix shampoos and conditioners that I have used. I have found other drug store brands to work much better (Dove I'm talking to you :) ). I think for the price it just isn't worth it.

And Lastly . . . . . .

The Award for: Right Product but Wrong Hair

I know some people swear by this product, and for a few of my girlfriends and family members it works great. But for me peresonally, it's just way to heavy for my flat hair. I would rather use a hair mask, and occasionally a hair treatment like CHI (which just works better for my hair). I think its a good product, but the bottle just sits there.

Maybe these products work for you? But it wasn't for me.
