Designer Spotlight : Julijana (Juli) Grbac

Before I found the "beauty" world on youtube - I was addicted to watching tv shows/ clips and I somehow stumbled upon Project Runway Australia Season 2 - as it was airing.

I can not explain to you in words how much I adored / was addicted / could not get enough of that series. I always have been a fan of project runway - but the Australian Version or at least the Season 2 that I caught was amazing.

In the end the Designer that won the coveted Prize was Juli Grbac (who I was sort of rooting for) as much as I loved some of the other designers like Petrova.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with her - or her work - but it is uber girly. She made the most amazing "frocks" as she would say during her run on the show :

Julie is in the short white/cream dress. Her model is in the long gray/metal dress.

One of my favorites was a dress the contestants were to design for Kelly Rowland - Juli won that round and did so with this dress.

Her style is so sophisticated and feminine, and is able to showcase that in all of her pieces.
I hope that she launches her line here in the US soon ! Until then, here are a few of my favorite designs.

FOTD: End of the Day Video Face :)

NOTE - I apologize for the lack of makeup and neatness for my FOTD. It was the end of the day, but I wanted to post a pic since I finally got a chance to wear 2 new things : My Shirt Dress and a New Lipstick :)

FOTD : Exhausted End of the Day Hair & Makeup

Hair :
Fat Hair Spray
and Day After Curled Hair with a 1" Hot Tools Curler

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Glow Sheers Foundation in Medium Tan
Glow Blush from ELF
MAC MSF Natural to Set

Maybeline Define a Lash
Jordana Navy Blue Eyeliner on lower eyeline only

Rimmel Airy Fairy and Birthday Suit (My new fav. nude)

Here is an awkward angle for my OOTD : Skinny Gray Jeans with Turquoise Plaid Shirt Dress :)

Collective Haul : Catch All for YT Video Post

Hello Lovely Readers:

I know I have been gone for a few days - I was out enjoying time with my friends / and my birthday. But I am back and have tons of ideas / posts to work on.

So I have GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS -

The Good news is . . . I have finally made a new video : ) So please check that out if you're interested

The Bad news is . . . It's a little rushed and a catch all for the hauling I've been doing over the last month. I filmed it at the end of the day right before bed - so please excuse the messy hair and tired face

Collective Haul from Video

Breakdown: :L to R Milani Glimmer Stripes,
Prestige Glam Tan Bronzer, Mac Refiend MSF

Mac Refined MSF - A really pretty peach MSF , not too golden at all. It works great with my skin tone by adding a little bit of color without being too bright. I find that golden MSF can be a little too much for daytime - so this is a pefect color and consistency!

Prestige Glamtan Bronzer - What can I add to this cult favorite? If you have it you know why its loved - its golden, its a bronzer, its not too chunky or glittery. Just pefectly milled minerals that create a sweet golden bronze glow. If you don't have it - well then you should try it :)

Milani - Is becoming my new favorite drugstore brand.
Glitter Stripes in Pink - Great multipurpse product, can be used as eyeshadow and as a great highlighter as well.

Milani Eyeshadows : L to R Java Bean, Golden, Illusion
Bobbi Brown in the Back

JavaBean Eyeshadow - I heart this color. It's sucha pretty, purply brown with a golden tones.
Illusion Eyeshadow - A lovely nude pinky gold
Golden Eyeshadow- A warm golden color that works well paired with Java Bean

Bobbi Brown Palette - What can I say I love the nude colors. I did a in depth review that you can find here if your interested.

Claire's Eyeshadow Palette

I was pleasantly suprised by this purchase. I was at the mall and was in need of a bright color for the wedding this weekend - so I picked this up. The colors are so pigmented - very reminiscent of the coastal scents palettes - 88 pallete ect. - ect.

The colors were really great, even without a base. They had tons of comobos, brights, neutrals, smokey colors in the 1o shadow palettes. It would be a great alternative to those 88 monster palettes and really great for travel IMO.

Happy Birthday To Me !

It's my birthday today :)

I'm having a wonderful day despite my cell phone dying on me yesterday! YES - I have no cell phone on my birthday , no phone calls, no text messages. Let's just say it's not exactly how I imagined it but I am getting lots of emails/ fb messages and even a few hand written cards. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise ? :)

I just wanted to share an image of the wonderful cake my mother got me :) She's the best !!

Decor Inspiration : Molly Sims SoHo Loft

Besides Make up - I have a few other passions. If you haven't noticed from my blog - I tend to write about things that I enjoy - hair, fashion, decor, beauty and the list goes on.

I always enjoy reading inspiration posts from other bloggers, it's intersting to learn what they are inspired by - so I thought I would share mine.

I saw this NY apartment in In Style's home magazine a few months ago and I fell in love. It belongs to the wonderful Molly Simms (who I happen to love).

This is my favorite room.
The colors are perfect and I especially love the wall art -
I think text is amazing on walls.

I like her mix of feminine and masculine -
like this desk paired with the dress stand.

This room is simply beautiful.
You would think this much gray would make the room so dark,
but she has the perfect lighting - especially that chandelier.

Her bedroom is the most peaceful room in the house.

Her apartment was designed by Kishani Perera a lead designer from Fuse ID.

Deep Conditioning - Weekend Treatment for Hair

Your hair can never have enough TLC -- So every week or two weeks I try to do a full day deep conditioning.

It usually helps out to do this on a Saturday morning - so I can condition it all day and multitask by spending the day cleaning or whatever you do on your Saturday :)

Here's my routine:

Things needed
Spray Bottle with Water
Vatika Hair Oil
Hair Band

Step 1
Start with Dry Hair

Spray hair with water to dampen - focus the spray at the tips not the roots -- Hair should be slighty damp but not wet -- (Damp hair opens up the pores and helps aid in the absorption of the oil)

Step 2
Pour hair oil into palm of hand - warm up between both hands and apply liberally to all tips of the hair.

*Remember to build up* - add a small dime size amount at first then massage it into the tips of the hair -- Add more oil as needed until all ends are coated.

Step 3
Add another dime size amount of hair oil and apply it to scalp - massage it into scalp (or ask someone to do this for you -- it's pretty relaxing)

Step 4
Smooth hands over all of your hair roots, middle and ends and gather into a bun -- secure with hair band if needed.

(My Hair Bun -- Also new hair color :) )

Step 5
Leave hair in bun for the entire day - wash out with shampoo only at night and you will have super soft hair ! :)

Place a shower cap onto hair - the heat will intensify the absorption
Go out in the sun for a while - again the heat will help intensify the absorption
Short on Time : Apply an hour before you wash your hair for a quick fix
Got Extra Time : Leave in overnight for extra softness

So you don't have Vatika?
Here are some other oils that are equally effective - or hmm how about a blend?
Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Moroccan Hair Oil

Wardrobe Makover : Hangers

Re-doing or Organizing your wardrobe is a big process - you never really know which end to start with. I thought a lot about what I would tackle first and well after a random purchase I had my answer:

Huggable Hangers

I am sure that you have seen these velvet hangers- probably on the late night hsn (home shopping network) and wondered maybe? maybe not? Well I had seem them too - and had never really thought about purcahsing them but I got suckered in by a late-night HSN viewing.

I orderd the 50-pk with Sachet & Garment Bag set in all black from for $57.50 see below:

Untill now I've only owned plain plastic hangers, all in white - with the exception of a few wire hangers. But I really wanted my closet to look a little more appealing, so I'm hoping that these hangers will provide both style & function (I can finally cut off all those annoying plastic straps from my dresses - since the velvet will hold the dresses/skirts without them YAYAY!!)

Like many of you I wasn't quite sure what to keep and what to toss in my closet so I rummaged threw a few magazines and blogs and come up with the following choices:

The Hanger Technique
Hang all clothes on hangers with them facing towards you. As you wear your clothes - turn the hanger around so it faces away from you.

Every 3, 6 or 12 months take inventory of hangers that have not been turned around. If you haven't worn it in a year - will you really wear it ? :)

Color Coordination
Yes - it sounds so ODD, but if you color coordinate your clothes when you hang/fold them it will make it easier to find all your peices.

Also, it will allow you to try new colors, if you notice that you have 20 black shirts - maybe its time to play with some color? [I'm defnitley guilty of that one :) ]

The Outfit Log
When I'm in a rush I can never, ever find something that I like. So in order to remind you of what you own - start an outfit log. Everytime you wear a cute outfit - take a picture. When your looking for something "new" to wear, go through your images and you will be able to find an outfit that you love in a sinch!

The Rotation
If you are like me, you find yourself wearing some of your clothes a lot, and a lot of your clothes very rarley. Every few months - take inventory of clothing you have worn a lot (look through your recent pictures for starters) and put those towards the end of your rack. Then play with all the pieces you have left. You'll refresh your look and be able to move a few more of those hangers :)

In order to maximize my closet space, I pack away all of my winter coats as soon as I see the first little bit of sun. I keep a suitcase in my closet - that holds all my spring dresses and spring coats in Winter and all of my winter jackets and sweaters in the summer. I have to work with the space that I have - so this really helps me maximiz my closet space and still keep things neat and organized.

The Big Give
When I finally get down to the clothes that I will no longer be wearing, I try to do a little research about where I should donate my clothes. Some stuff, usually club attire just goes in the recycle bin. But other good pieces I try to donate to charities that really are in need. A domestic women's shelter is a great place to start, so is the salvation army or the good will.

Another great idea is to go to a consigment shop or Ebay - if you have some great pieces that could earn some money. Do your research, there are a lot of great places now like the Crossroads trading company, The Junior League consignment shop and many more.

Haul : Forever21 and WetSeal

Went to dinner with the cousins made a small stop at the mall and I ended up walking away with all of this in under 15 minutes. Amazing! When I need to find something it takes me 3 days - when I'm not looking I can get it done in under 20? Go Figure

Plaid Shirt Dress - Wet Seal. I think I'm really loving shirt dresses this season.

Spring Cotton Dress - Wet Seal. I absolutely love the pattern - it seems to look like its hand painted - overall just really, really pretty.

Close up of the pattern. The colors on this are just super pretty IMO.

My new favorite necklace - from Forever21 You will be seeing a lot of this on me this summer/spring I can guarantee it.

And Lastly Here is a FOTD (I know it's been a while) no special make up but I did get a haircut - I had MAJOR split ends and although I'm growing my hair out to be Olivia Palermo Long (I hope) that will have to wait until I can get it healthy. For now - some fun layers.

Celeb Crush: Rachel Roy

We all have our own inspirational celebs - those we admire for their taste - or simply envy for their looks. If I'm being honest I tend to crush a lot - so this might a reoccurring post :) but my current crush is the lovely Ms. Rachel Roy

She is always just so polished and put together - not matter what picture I see her in. She is definitely on point !

I am a big fan of her taste and style - which is why I was so excited to hear that she would be launching her a line Rachel by Rachel Roy at Macy's this fall - here's a sneak peak of it :) I am super excited.

Who is your current celeb crush ? ?

Bobbi Brown Shimmering Nudes Palette

The last time I went up to SF - I stopped off at the CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet) in Gilroy, CA - just to see what they had in stock. I luckily found my Michael Kors Island Fiji Perfume :) which was the main reason for my stop - but I ended up walking away with this :

The Bobbi Brow Shimmering Nudes Palette

I'm a firm believer that one can never have too many neutral colors. I seem to always been wearing neutrals at work - and I thought this would a perfect for on-the-go. :)

I tried to swatch the colors for you - but due to it being a nude pallete some didn't show up as well. But I think you can at least tell the shimmers from the mattes :)

The colors (R to L)
7. Nude Beach Metallic Eye Shadow
6. Nude Mist Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow
5. Naked Eye Shadow
4. Nude Glow Metallic Eye Shadow
3.Mica Wash Shimmer Eye Shadow
2. Nude Spice Metallic Eye Shadow
1. Espresso Eye Shadow

I really like that although it is a nude pallete it does have a great range of colors - from beige to pink to gray tones. I was really excited because I love the Espresso eye shadow before, and its the perfect crease color to pair with any of these (or other) neutral shades. I also like the quality of the double edged brush that comes with the pallete.

I can see this becoming a staple in my makeup bag - It has all the colors I would need for a touch up or bump up from day to night.

This was originally priced for $50.00 I picked this up at the CCO for $35.00 :)

Nail Color Du Jour - Lilac

Sometimes a little pink (or in this case pinky-lilac) is just what a lady needs . . .

I'm loving this creamy color !

Summertime Detox

I'm all about getting into shape the healthy (and hard way) but sometimes you need to Jumpstart your system :)

I began researching detoxes and detox recipes and found one that I really, really liked ! It's by Jillian Michaels of The Biggest Looser Fame.

And Yes, I'm talking about her Infamous Diet Drink that helps you loose 5 pounds in 7 days. The drink helps rid our body of toxins as well as help remove excess water weight and bloating.

I couldn't resist the temptation - so I went this afternoon and picked up the necessary items for the recipe which is:

Recipe :
60 oz distilled water ( roughly 2 liters)
1 TBS sugarfree cranberry juice
1 dandelion root tea bag
2 TBS lemon juice

Mix and Drink Each day for 7 days.

If your looking for further instructions - this is what I'll be doing:
  • Steeping the tea bag in 1 cup of water (hot)
  • After it's cooled - I'll add the rest of the water, cranberry juice and lemon juice.
  • Place in Refrigerator to cool - and just add to my 1 litter water bottle to sip throughout the day
  • Repeat on day 2 . . . .
NOTE: This drink is supposed to be taken in ADDITION to your daily food so it's not a fast :) Also - I would recommend eating healthy but really watching your salt intake (salt = bloat) .

I'll be starting this experiment tomorrow - and will keep all of you posted on the results. I may even have a partner the very lovely Ms. Fantastic(aka SukaAndSpice) who you can find here .
I figure that if I can re-fill my bottle twice a day and finish it - I will deem myself successful :)

But I'm curious - What are your summer get-into-shape secrets/tips?

Product of the Month: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails

After a few years of off and on acrylics I have finally given them up for good. What was left : fragile nails that were in need of some TLC.

So besides staying away from the acrylic station at the salon - I wanted to find a few ways to really help strengthen my nails. I started to eat better, and drink more water. Also I started taking a multivitamin - all of which would help in the long run - but for a more short term solution I turned to this:

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Treatment

Why I love this stuff: It goes on clear so it can be used as a base coat and top coat. It really adheres to your nail - meaning it stays on for days :) It's really helped seal in my nails so I can prevent the inevitable chipping or breaking that my nails are prone to.

I wish I had some before and after pictures to share with you, but I purchased this on a whim and wasn't planning that far ahead :)

Overall, I really truly love this product. I keep it in my makeup bag now, so that I can add some TLC on the go. I try to apply this at least twice a week ( a bit much - maybe) but I'm trying to have my nails in good natural shape so I can experiment with all the fun summer colors.
