Five Things

Inspired by Cupcake and Cashmere's post,
Here are my Five Things (The Christmas Version)

Metalic Hues The whole tree is shades of metal (gold, silver, and bronze)
It was a nice change from the traditional colors, and with it being
our first christmas as Mr. & Mrs. the metalic hues add a little
a touch of glamour to the whole house.

Baking is one of my favorite things, and it goes into overdrive
during the holidays. I picked up these cookie cutters at Michaels
and look forward to making & decorating a few batches
for the munchkins (and adults) this season.

I have a small problem with it comes to decorating supplies, I tend
to go overboard with collecting ribbons, paper and gift toppers.
Bells were one my favorite toppers last year, this year I have a creative
use for confetti (maybe I'll do a quick tutorial in a future post)

When it comes to the holidays, I feel like the whole house needs subtle
doses of the holiday spirit. One of my favorites is this metal gift box that
sits in our entry way. I've filled it with oranments and bows that are a little
retro and I think it adds just the right touch.

Lastly, I grew up in a house where gardening was a major thing.
So each year I look forward to purchasing poinsettas. It may
not be actual gardening, but their red color instantly reminds
of the holidays and bit of my parents house too.

Coffee Anyone?

With the weather finally turning cold, I've found myself in search for a new coffee mug. It may just be me, but I love finding unique pieces. They are a great way to spark conversation when I have people over for the holidays and in this family we can never have enough coffee or tea so they come in pretty handy. I think it would be appropriate to share a few that have caught my eye. Especially with the gift giving season nearing, they may be a great alternative to the traditional hostess gift.

Lip Pencil and a slightly late Halloween Outfit

I was in Ulta the other day and thought I could use a new lip pencil or two, I randomly stumbled upon NYX's Soft Fuchsia and it has surprisingly been a staple for the past few days.

I left it in my car today, and so when it came around to taking pictures of it, I had a very messy product so I apologize!

It's a really pretty color, the perfect nude for winter.
I'm paler so I want a little color in my lips and this is really subtle but nude at the same time.

On a random note....

My Halloween Costume

I bought my costume on Saturday (just a tiny bit last minute...) but it turned out pretty well
As much as I loved the costume, the skirt (mainly the spandexy material of the skirt) was not working for me, so I grabbed a skirt I had laying around and threw it over. I don't think anyone really noticed but I felt a lot more put together :) I wore boots - so please excuse the socks in the picture.

Just a few of the things I've had on my mind for the fall...mainly rain boots. It'll be my first official pair, so I've been looking into a few options and these seem to be the front runners. Also I added a few umbrellas I would like  add to my collection :) mainly the Pagoda. What are some of your favorites?

2. Hunter Original Beige $125
3. Burberry Equestrian Knight Rain Boots $225
4. Burberry Studded Wellington $395
5. Bubble Umbrella  $30
6. Pagoda Umbrella  $105

Decor Inspiration: Accent Walls

Not sure what it is about them, but I've been obsessed with accent walls lately. I feel like I've been seeing them everywhere and it may be a sign that I need to have one in my house too. However, in all honestly, the one thing that always intimidates me is the intricate pattern and the time needed to complete them. I adore them so much, but I don't know if I would be able to really pull it off to be honest.

So in the meantime, you can join me in my daydreaming and I'll keep you posted on whether this becomes a reality or not :)

A fantastic DIY effort - see how here

One of my all time favorites - Joseph Cortes

I took a look inside my closet the other day, and realized that I had a slight problem. I had somehow managed to fill my entire wardrobe with solids. I had a few prints here and there, but for the most part, it was seriously lacking some texture. Let me say that this may have to do with the fact that I have just moved in with the Mr. and in the process between moving from my apartment, back home to my parents house to now my new abode, I have been able to do some serious clothing dumping.

You know what I'm talking about, the things that just don't feel the love any more - and so have been weeded out with quickness. Another bonus is that I get to re-do my new closet, so look for a few closet organizations pictures (finally I know) in the near future.

I went to a boutique and picked up these two printed dresses that I thought would be great for work. I'm not sure how both of them ended up with a grey background ( I may just be slightly obsessed with the color.. just saying)

Product of the Month: Sally Hansen Spa Nightly Foot Repair

This time of year, I always find myself searching the stores for as many moisturizers as I can load up on. I'm pretty good about keeping my skin moisturized during summer, in order to prepare for the inevitable winter parched-ness that occurs.

I picked up the Sally Hansen Nightly Foot Repair about a month ago on a whim, and thought I would try it out.

Well, I can report that I have been pleasantly surprised. What I thought was a typical body butter type of product, has actually turned out to be my go to thing every night. I can't remember the last time I was so consistient about something. I can be pretty fickle to say the least, and tend to switch things up quite often just because. However, this time, I think she's a keeper! Also, the scent is fabulous, the lavender is perfect, it's not too artificial smelling and it disappears fairly quickly.

I think the key is their ingredients: Shea Butter, French Lavender and Tea Tree Oil penetrate and transform dry, rough feet, reclaiming their natural smoothness and soft touch.

What are your favorite winter products? Please share!

I was trying to find a way to blend the end of my summer sulking, with my love for fall and decided I needed some brownies in my life to make it all better.

Not sure how it correlates, but I ended up with some amazing brownies and well that's all that matters :)

I've been wanting to try this recipe for mint brownies for quite sometime, and today happened to be that day. I cheated and mended the recipe (like I always do). I had a pre-made brownie mix laying around that needed my attention so forgive me for not making it from scratch. I made the mix as instructed and poured half into a baking dish. Then I added a few Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Mint Bars (essentially peppermint patties) to the batter - in a nice little grid (keeping space along the edges - this is important) and baked as instructed.

To check on the baking, I poked the outside rim of the pan with a toothpick [don't bother poking anywhere else - the melted chocolate from the candies won't provide an accurate account of the baking process :) ]

Served them with a side of vanilla ice cream (not pictured) and there you go - the perfect dessert for a night in! In the original recipe you can see the patty - but I've read a lot about how it disappears (visually). I'd say don't fret it, as soon as you taste the brownie you can really feel the mint and the cooling flavor does much more for it (in fact, I like it better this way)

In and Out September

Fall / Autumn Weather - I love this season, I get to pull out my favorite sweaters and boots . I'm sure that a lot of you may agree that there is something about this time of year that just makes me happy.

All Things Pumpkin - I have a confession to make, I LOVE pumpkins! I love pumpkin pie and bread, I also love the whole concept of Halloween and carving out jack-o-lanterns are a big thing in my book.

The Perfect Highlighter

(the nerd in me was so excited to find this contraption)
Decorating - it's a fun time right now but I'm on the hunt for new decor blogs, so if you have any favorites please send me the info!

Blogging - it's nice to be back in the groove of things

Bad Timing - I hate when you find the perfect accessory (in this case, an ideal summer clutch) just as the season comes to an end. I picked this up in Bali, along with a few other purses, I think i went a bit overboard but oh well, I think it's a good thing from time to time.

Green Python Clutch from Seminyak (Bali)

Tivo - finally cancelled our subscription and convinced the Mr. to switch over to a DVR (like normal people)

Real Housewives of anything - I liked watching OC, Atlanta was pretty good, but I think with DC they've just lost me and I don't think I can handle more of the same.

Job Hunting - this is always an out right? Hunting for a new job is never fun - wish me luck people!

Home Sweet Home

One of the best things about a new place is the decorating. If you haven't guessed it from my previous blog posts, but I have a thing for decor. The only thing that stood in my way was this whole tenant / landlord issue that prevented the usual painting and long term investments that come with decorating.

Now that the Mr. and I are finally setting into our new place, it's time to dust off the decorating books and magazines (not to mention the countless websites / pages bookmared) and get to it!

After a few billion ideas, we've decided to look for something calming and structured. Our lives are really hectic at the moment, and we really just need a place to unwind when we get home. We finally have our furniture in :) and are just starting to move onto all the important stuff (like paining and accents).

Here's a sneak peak:
The Lampshade

The Bedroom (in progress)

Are any of you decorating? What is your inspiration?

and we're back

Hello All,

It's been a crazy year. I've been gone for a while, I moved over to wordpress for a few months, but after a steady stream of nonstop spam and no real interaction with my readers I've decided to come back to homebase.

Hello Blogspot!

I will be updating soon, with new content and new ideas. Unfortunlatley, my posts on the wordpress blog were lost, and will not be able to transfer over here.

That means my engagement pics, and wedding pics are offline. I'll try and post them up and a few other pictures to say hello soon.

Looking forward to being back online with you all!

Thanks for sticking around!

If any of you are curious - I have officially purchased the wedding dress (among many other things) and will be updating you all with a few tidbits about the trip.

I just wanted to drop by and say a quick hello :)
